Its place in the org (owned by Product Management or Product Dev?).  Its prominence on the roadmap (business case, appropriate share of R&D $$ ?).  Sourcing good feedback.  Trialling big changes.  Thinking different.

The user experience specialist needs to work very close to the product manager.  While the PM is responsible for the overall success of the product, the UX is very focus in getting in touch with the users, find needs and niches and design accordingly. Even if from one side the PM is a wider job (need to look at the market, the internal org, the ux requirements and so on), the UX has to have a look at the same topics since they are part of the context of use.  Although the PM is more a management job, while ux is pure high level design
